Since relocating from Calgary to Crousetown, Nova Scotia, Jay Crocker has become a Maritime mad scientist of sound with his latest project JOYFULTALK. Adding hands on deck from collaborators Dice Parks and Will Vandermeulen, the trio put their ballcap-clad heads down and manipulate home-built electronics into eerily melodic instrumentals.
The extended video for “Buschbabies” (a collaboration between Vandermeulen and Andrea Thorne) features a mysterious neon-flashing figure emerging from the Bay of Fundy and searching the wilderness for something elusive. As the standout sound-suite from JOYFULTALK’s 2015 album MUUIXX twitches and turns between head-bobbing passages, you may find yourself losing time while following this extra dimensional entity.
