The Tragically Hip get cannabis strains named after hit songs

July 10, 2018

Music and the devil’s lettuce is a combination rivaling that of peanut butter and jam, so it’s no surprise that in advance of Canada’s October 17th legalization date, musicians north of the border are joining the likes of Snoop Dogg and Freddie Gibbs by dipping their toe into the grass game, with national treasures the Tragically Hip being at the forefront.

The band’s recently announced partnership with medical marijuana company Up Cannabis (formerly Newstrike), seen by members as “a perfect fit for The Hip,” continues to move forward with the company announcing a line of marijuana strains named after your favourite Tragically Hip songs.

Commemorate Canada’s legalization date (and anniversary of frontman Gord Downie’s passing) by puffing on varieties of Willie Nelson such as 50MC (an abbreviated and smoke-able take on “50 Mission Cap”), Grace (dropping the comma and the “Too” from their well-known song), along with strains named after their songs “Eldorado,” “Morning Moon,” and “The Last of the Unplucked Gems” (conveniently shortened to “Gems”).

Although details are still scant as to these strains’ indica-sativa ratios, we’re sure that no matter the type, they’ll get the job done in terms of making us all feel like Weed Kings and pretty things.
