The Barbadian government is about to put in some work when it comes to recognizing one of their most famous expats — they’re renaming Westbury New Road in the southwestern parish of St. Michael’s in honour of Rihanna.
The street will be renamed to Rihanna Drive in a ceremony tomorrow called “Our Diamond – The Rihanna Drive Project”, as part of 51st anniversary celebrations of the island nation’s independence from Britain. The Barbadian Ministry of Tourism said the soon-to-be-former Westbury New Road is a growing tourist attraction, as many taxi drivers and tour bus operators show it off when driving tourists around the country. Additionally, the ministry wanted to “highlight the many achievements of the Grammy Award-winning singer, entrepreneur and philanthropist,” a government statement said. Sadly, Rihanna Shut Up and Drive must’ve not made the cut.
