Rihanna and Drake aren’t friends anymore

"We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is."

May 4, 2018

It’s been almost two years since we bore witness to largest-scale cringe event of all time when Drake professed his unrequited love to Rihanna onstage at the 2016 MTV VMAs, but fortunately for us (and unfortunately for Aubrey Graham), awkward moments are forever. Both artists have been pretty silent about the episode since it occurred, that is until now, with Rihanna spilling the details of the incident—and how it affected her and the Toronto rapper’s relationship—in the latest cover story of Vogue.

When asked about the incident, Rihanna “winces slightly at the mention of the rapper’s name” before revealing that “waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments; I don’t like to be put on blast.” Rihanna, who is currently dating businessman Hassan Jameel, revealed her current relationship with Drake—whether it be romantic or ‘just friends’—to these days be virtually nonexistent, floating around in a neutral stalemate of emotions: “We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is.”

Drakelationships aside, the rest of the profile is worth scoping out, which features Rihanna talking of her reggae-inspired, potentially-one-of-two forthcoming albums, along with details of her “man-cave inspired den” that she adorably calls her “kitty cave.”
