As if its status as one of the most unique and varied urban experiences in Canada wasn’t enough of a reason to visit Montreal, the reliably artist-centric and expertly curated POP Montreal festival lands back in the city to offer its fresh festival approach from this September 25th to 29th.
Known for regularly boasting lineups as dynamic and compelling as its namesake city, this year’s installment is no exception when it comes to POP Montreal’s track record of plucking artists from across both the globe and the musical spectrum.
2019 offer a bill heavy on the iconic genre pioneers, featuring performances from art pop godmother Laurie Anderson, Australia’s own prince of gloom Nick Cave, and Japanese proto-pop-punkers Shonen Knife; while also shining a light on homegrown professionals of musical peculiarity such as “noh-wavers” Yamantaka // Sonic Titan and ascending avant-garde jazz artist Colin Stetson.
In addition to its range of must-see musical offerings, the five-day festival has plenty more to offer beyond the bands, including curated programming such as Film POP (to scratch all your music-related movie itches) and Art POP (showcasing one-of-a-kind pieces, performances, and installations by visual artists from around the globe).
Early bird tickets to POP Montreal’s innovative festival experience – the full lineup of which can be seen below – are currently on sale for $120, and give festivalgoers access (and sweet, sweet line-skipping privileges) to the over 400 shows, art events, film premieres, and conferences taking place across the city as a part of the festival.
