The chapter may be closing on summer ’19, but POP Montreal is keeping the festival buzz alive with a reveal of their full lineup for this year’s installment, which runs September 25th to 29th and just received a whole other wave of artists on us that already has us reserving our Megabus seat.
The most head-turning addition to the festival comes in the form of Mavis Staples and her politically-driven, gospel-influenced R&B. The fact that POP Montreal gives you a chance to see her alongside other just-added musical treats such as Canadian indie pop mainstay Basia Bulat and the future-forward soul of Zaki Ibrahim is icing on the festival cake.
The fest’s initial line-up, which dropped in May, was already filled with enough heavy hitters to be enough of a music lover magnet on its own, featuring slated appearances from legendary synth pop soothsayer Laurie Anderson, avatar of Australian alternative Nick Cave, and dream-folk mistress Weyes Blood (fresh off of one of this year’s best albums). With new additions such as Toronto’s experimental-psych collective DOOMSQUAD and rising post-punk duo Ice Cream, the party just got a bit weirder (and a hell of a lot cooler).
To get in on the action (which also includes a line-up of film, food, and fairs in addition to the cavalcade of can’t-miss shows), head to the festival’s official website for a full itinerary and ticketing options.
