Bandcamp has done a bang-up job of turning their excellent music platform into a driver of social change. Earlier this year, they staged a fundraiser for the American Civil Liberties Union which saw their sales top $1 million in 24 hours. Today, they’re donating 100% of their profit from sales to the Transgender Law Center.
It’s pretty easy: buy a record from Bandcamp today, and you’re supporting trans rights. In a statement, the website’s staff explained, “To participate as a fan, simply purchase music through Bandcamp on Friday and we’ll donate our share of the sale to TLC.” They also encouraged bands and labels to get in on the action, and many have heeded the call: over 200 have pledged their cut to the TLC as well, including labels like Sub Pop, Epitaph, and Run For Cover and artists like Sad13 and Car Seat Headrest. Check out the full list here, and scoop some records from them for maximum impact.
The TLC does concrete policy advocacy and litigation work to benefit trans people in America, and the centre’s services are needed now more than ever as the inhumane bastard atop their country’s political system denies trans peoples’ existence at every turn. The fundraiser runs until midnight pacific time, so get out there, buy some records, support platforms that do good, and support trans rights!
