11 songs that expertly sample television theme songs

Billie Eilish is far from the first artist is turn to the small screen for inspiration.

When you sit down to give Billie Eilish’s just-dropped debut, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, you might be delighted to hear not just the wonderful voice of Eilish, but also those of everyone’s favourite Scranton buffoons, Michael Scott and Andy Bernard.

The album cut “My Strange Addiction” forgoes sampling from the show its title is taken from and instead sees Eilish further indulging in her obsession with The Office, though, if we’re being honest, we’re a tad disappointed Eilish settled for a vocal snippet instead of going big all over the show’s infinitely-catchy, piano-driven theme song. We still love you though!

This pop-song-TV-nod got us thinking of songs that could further satisfy this craving at the intersection of binge-watching and playlist-making, which is why we’ve compiled a list of 11 songs that masterfully build their bop from TV theme songs of shows you love and, well, some you’ve probably never even heard of.
