Pop culture at large has pretty much moved on from the dab-heavy era of early last year, so naturally, Walmart is now getting in on the hottest craze of January 2016 with a Christmas sweater featuring Santa hitting the dab. So far, so capitalism, right? The only problem is that Walmart pretty clearly ripped off their Dabbin’ Santa™ design from 2 Chainz, who’s been selling the sweater for 2 years in his online store, with the proceeds going to charity.
Tity Boi made his displeasure at the megacorp known through an Instagram post yesterday, writing that “Walmart…didn’t get permission to use this patent or likeness in anyway.” 2 Chainz takes it further, noting that he was originally selling the sweater to “spread togetherness and also give back to those who are less fortunate or not able to provide for their families at the time.”
Let’s hope this dispute at least results in another dab-based holiday sweater, perhaps featuring Santa twerking. Oh, wait.
