The days of late night television’s longtime boys club is finally (FINALLY) over with the announcement that the Canadian Superwoman herself, Lilly Singh, will be throwing her hat into the ring, with A Little Late with Lilly Singh premiering this September on NBC. Singh, who rose to prominence over the last nine years through her wildly-popular YouTube channel, made the announcement last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, where she broke the news over glasses of bubbly with network-mates Fallon and Seth Meyers.
“An Indian-Canadian woman with her own late night show? Now that is a dream come true,” Singh excitedly told Fallon. A Little Late is set to be the only late-night show on a broadcast network to feature a female or Indian hostess, let alone both. Singh wasn’t the only one to take note of her achievement, however, with plenty of her friends across the industry congratulating her:

The upcoming program looks to be a very Lilly Singh take on the late night format, with the former vlogger excitedly outlining her approach: “I get to make it inclusive, I get to create comedy segments, and interview people, and really create something I believe in.” Though she’s sticking to her roots, Singh still joked about looking forward to working in a new platform where she has “more than three staff members and my sound guy won’t also be an extra and won’t also write the scripts.”
A Little Late pops up in the time-slot currently occupied by Last Call With Carson Daly, which the host announced back in February would be ending its 17-year run on the network to allow the Daly to spend more time on his family. Doug Vaughn, VP of special programming at NBC, praised Singh as the newest member of their family, calling her “a multi-talented performer who will surely have a great rapport with not only all her guests but also with our devoted late-night audience. We can’t wait to get started.”
