Even though I’ve done a lot of different creative things from writing to marketing/branding to DJing to music curation and beyond, I’ve always just had a desire to amplify things that I think are interesting, unique, important or just dope out there into the world. Using my voice, platform, network, connections, whatever it is, to give other people or artists a boost. I honestly never thought that I’d have a record label but now that I’m doing it, it really feels like a sensible extension of everything else I’ve been up to. I have to give a lot of credit to Freeza though because this was 100% his idea, and without his encouragement and openness to collaborate then it’s not something I think I could/would have done alone. Just because we are a couple doesn’t mean we have to work together, or that he has to include me on things he’s doing and vice versa. The collaboration still has to make sense and this is one that really did, because we each bring different things to the table that will contribute to this project’s (hopeful) success.
We decided to launch this now because we were really inspired by a recent trip to the UK we took. It’s easy to look at another place or city or scene and wish you could have what they have, but everything has to start somewhere. The UK has an amazing music scene now with a lot of support for underground music from big corporations—from broadcasters to record labels—but it was happening at a grassroots level for decades before anybody took notice. We want to contribute to that ground-level grassroots scene here in Canada any way we can, in hopes of creating a better future for artists and building slowly towards that mythical “infrastructure” that everyone likes to talk about.
This playlist is a collection of songs we’re inspired by and encompasses the type of music we will be pushing with the label.
