Thanks to bands like No Joy and Femme Accident, Montreal’s built itself a banner reputation for shoegaze-inflected dream pop. But while their counterparts often overwhelm with crashing walls of guitar feedback, Seoul—who debuted last summer, playing Pop Montreal, M For Montreal, and the Halifax Pop Explosion and, more recently, SXSW—choose to caress, rather than bludgeon, listeners. To their credit, it works.
According to the Queen’s Journal, that band—consisting of Nigel Ward, Dexter Garcia, Ryan White, and Julian Flavin—is prepping a full-length. To tide us over, AUX and Scion Sessions caught up with Seoul at M For Montreal for a taste of their effervescent ambient pop. Check “Stay With Us” above.
