Last week, Dave Grohl tweeted a picture of a letter he sent when just 14 years old to legendary hardcore frontman and Dischord label co-founder Ian MacKaye that MacKaye had found while cleaning his attic. Other than some concerns MacKaye may have a slight hoarding problem, the whole thing was pretty awesome. In a follow up interview with NME, the Foo Fighters frontman revealed that the letter was an attempt to get MacKaye to release an album by Grohl’s band at the time. He then added, “I’m telling you, if the Foos could do a Dischord single, then we could break up.”
If you don’t know what happened next, you must not have met the Internet before today.
Yep, before you could say “I hate The Pretender” there was a petition on Change.org imploring Dischord Records to ‘release a Foo Fighters single so Foo Fighters will break up.’ The petition came with an impassioned plea:
”People should support this petition because Dave Grohl says that, should Dischord release a Foo Fighters single, Foo Fighters will break up. This is very important, as Grohl and his band might be the most insufferable band of bros on the planet.”
I don’t see them getting under Grohl’s skin though. At this point, I have a suspicion that Grohl gets up every morning, looks in the mirror, drawls ‘haters gonna hate’ in a surprisingly gangsta voice and gets on with his day.
