Taylor Swift is currently in the midst of a sexual assault trial against a Denver radio DJ named David Mueller, whom Swift alleges groped her during a meet and greet in 2013. Yesterday, Swift herself took the stand to testify against Mueller, and recounted her disturbing experience that day, stating that Mueller grabbed her underneath her skirt while posing for a photo with her during the event.
“It was a very shocking thing that I have never dealt with before,” Swift said. “He grabbed my ass underneath my skirt. It was underneath my skirt.” Swift initiated a civil suit against Mueller for the act, and the DJ responded by counter-suing two years later for $3 million in lost income after being let go from his DJ position for what he says are false allegations. Swift is no counter-suing Mueller for $1.
Of course, this being Taylor Swift, she wasn’t about to suffer being dismissively cross-examined lightly, which the following quotes from her testimony make clear:
While being questioned on if she was critical of her bodyguards for not stepping in: “I’m critical of your client sticking his hand under my skirt and grabbing my ass.”
When it was suggested that Swift could have taken a break from taking photos with fans: “Your client could have taken a normal photo with me.”
When asked why, if Mueller lifted her skirt, the front of it was not ruffled: “Because my ass is located on the back of my body.”
When asked if Swift could actually see the incident taking place, Swift responded that no, she couldn’t see, because her “ass [is] in the back of her body.”
When it was suggested that Swift’s civil suit caused Mueller to unfairly lose his job: “I am not going to allow your my client to make me feel like it is anyway my fault because it isn’t.”
Swift was followed to the witness stand by Mueller’s former radio boss Robert Call, who said he fired Mueller 48 hours after the alleged incident was made apparent to him thanks to Swift’s publicist, and due to the photo in question, which he said clearly showed that Mueller’s hand was “not where it was supposed to be.” In general, reaction to Swift’s testimony has been very positive, with fans and commentators saying they are “proud and inspired” by the strength and resilience she showed.
Mueller, for his part, is still denying anything untoward took place, and that if there was any inappropriate contact, it was accidental.
