Katy Perry and Calvin Harris have quashed their beef

August 25, 2017

Maybe she'll patch things up with Taylor Swift next.

Somewhere in California, Katy Perry is smiling. That’s because everything seems to be coming up Katy: Her long-time nemesis, Taylor Swift, is launching an album called Fake News Reputation, whose first single is being roundly mocked by the internet. Meanwhile, she released a celebrity-studded, Space Jam-celebrating video for “Swish Swish.” And even better? She’s made peace with an important former rival: EDM-pop bro Calvin Harris, who, to make things even sweeter, formerly dated Swift.

See? Everything’s coming up Katy.

So, how did Perry and Harris being feuding in the first place? It started in 2011, when the two were scheduled  to tour. But the “Feels” producer dropped off the tour, which led Perry to announce, on Twitter, that “Calvin Harris will NOT be joining in on the fun and has CANCELLED last minute.”

Harris did not taking to things kindly.

“Sorry to all who wanted to see me with Katy – her team suddenly moved the goalposts and I was to appear on stage with no production,” he declared.

”The goalpost seems to be perfectly fine for [other Perry openers] New Young Pony Club, Yelle, Robyn, Marina & The Diamonds, to name a few,” Perry replied. “It’s fine, I’m used to you cancelling on me, it’s become ur staple!”

Things have been chilly ever since—especially since Harris went on to date Swift. But things seemed to be lightening up, especially after Swift split with Harris in 2016, only to start a summer tryst with Tom Hiddleston. Ever the sadguy, Harris took to Twitter (yet again) to air his grievances with his ex. “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry,” he directed a you-know-who. “I won’t allow it.”

So, did Harris join the ranks of Team Katy in 2016? It seemed so. But Perry hasn’t publicly commented on things—until now. In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Perry revealed that her cold war with Harris was officially over, and the two, in fact, had spent time in the studio together.

“We just bumped into each other and he said, ‘I think I have a song that maybe you should come check out,’ ” Perry said. “I was like, ‘Cool,’ because we had always meant to work together for years and years and years.”

“We’d had little falling outs here and there,” she continued, regarding their earlier Twitter feuds. ” It was time to put all that behind us.”

“I came to the studio and he played me a bunch of unfinished but really solid moments for his new record. Then he played me this one part for this new song called ‘Feels’ “—which featured Perry, Pharrell Williams and Big Sean—”and I was like, ‘Oh yeah.’ This is like my favourite song off the record. I was just down to do it.”

Somewhere, in California, Katy Perry is smiling. And somewhere, in New York, Taylor Swift is pissed.
