You oughta know one thing: Alanis Morissette is turning her 1995 hit album, Jagged Little Pill, into a stage musical.
First announced back in 2013, Morissette has now shared more details about the project, saying in a statement that the Jagged Little Pill musical is “my musical theatre dream come true” and that she feels “honoured to be diving into these songs again, surrounded by all of this searing talent.”
To help bring the musical to life, Morissette has enlisted the help of a cadre of top-shelf talent, including the Tony winners Diane Paulus and Tom Kitt as director and composer, respectively, and Juno’s Diablo Cody will be writing the show’s book.
The musical will reportedly feature themes of gender identity and race, and follow a family through a multi-generational storyline, all set to the music of the multiple Grammy-winning album that established Alanis as a megastar singer-songwriter back in 1995. The show will premiere in 2018 at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts
No word yet on casting, but I think we all know who has to play the male lead:
