Everyone has a favourite pair of jeans. Maybe you love your pair because they’ve faded in the right way, or have moulded to fit your body, more comfortably than a soft blanket. But imagine if your favourite jeans not only had no crotch (which we can actually thank Gary Shteyngart’s Super Sad True Love Story, for introducing), but, also had no pant legs!
Well, we have Unravel Projects, to thank for making Shteyngart’s unusual fantasy a reality. Released as part of their Resort ’18 presentation, the fashion line refers to these “jeans” as the following:
Unravel Project used denim belts to nip in the waist of its slouchy and oversized pieces. Designed to appear like it’s been sliced from the top of your favorite jeans, this faded blue version has frayed edges and exposed pockets. It looks even cooler with a slim leather strap over the top.
So it looks like the real question at hand is whether this article of clothing is a belt or a pair of jeans? Are jeans only contained the the realm of pants? Can you have a belt with pockets? Can we begin to imagine the potential of a world where belts come tailor-made with pockets?! Given the fashion world’s notoriously bad record for making clothing designated for women, without pockets, this could be a gamechanger.
If you have an extra $405 to spare, you can ponder all of these questions as you fit your “denim waist belt” over whatever you desire. With festival season around the corner, maybe we have a new trend to keep an eye out for?
