You can’t expect every legendary, 63-year-old comedian to be familiar with every single pop star from the last few years, but when you brutally deny a famous fan a hug, you gotta expect some sort of backlash. Keep in mind, though, when you’re talking about two pop culture figures as far removed from each other as Kesha and Jerry Seinfeld, there’s bound to be some awkwardness.
When Seinfeld was approached by a starstruck Kesha while being interviewed on the red carpet at the Night of Laughter & Song charity event at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, his only response to was “no thanks” followed by dodging her second attempt, an encounter so cringe-inducing it causes Kesha to flee in embarrassment. “I don’t know who that was,” Seinfeld then tells the interviewer, before wishing the now-vanished Kesha the best.
See the awkward encounter for yourself below. WARNING: Contains large amounts of weapons-grade, purestrain cringe, so tread carefully if you’re the kind of person who has trouble watching The Office.

Well, at least this can probably be turned into a pretty decent Curb Your Enthusiasm episode; this whole thing is really more the kind of situation you expect to see Larry David in. “I’m just not a hugger! Why is everyone obsessed with hugging?!”
Following the encounter, some Kesha fans are taking Seinfeld to task for his perceived rudeness, taking to social media to declare that “Seinfeld is over!”… and not in the way that’s been true since 1998.

Reddit, as usual, is one step ahead, and has already crafted a full Seinfeld script based on the encounter. We live in the greatest of all possible worlds.
