Marvel shows us what a skinless Rocket Raccoon looks like for some reason

September 29, 2017

Say hello to your newest nightmare.

Hollywood’s been in the throes of a love affair with CG characters in recent years (OK, really since Jurassic Park in 1993), and the technology behind the creation of beloved computer-generated characters like Buzz, Woody, and uh…Jar Jar Binks has come a long way since. Nowadays, visual effects artists like the ones behind Rocket Raccoon and Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, create realistic muscular and skeletal structures beneath their characters before animating, granting more realistic, natural movement than ever before to their creations.

Thanks to a new VFX breakdown reel, we can see just how upsetting that looks, especially when it happens to everyone’s favourite anthropomorphic raccoon… who, in mid-rigging muscle and bone, looks like a horrifying outcast from Five Nights at Freddy’s:

Who knew special effects work could be so off-putting? Try not to think of this nightmare flesh-rat the next time you’re watching your GOTG 2 Blu-ray.
